Livanta Integrates with Medicare's Beneficiary Information on the Cloud (BIC) Database
In one of its latest development efforts, Livanta has created an application programming interface (API) to connect its proprietary case management system, CompassWeb, to Medicare's Beneficiary Information on the Cloud (BIC) database.
As a Centers for Medicare & Medicaid Services (CMS) Beneficiary and Family Centered Care - Quality Improvement Organization (BFCC-QIO), Livanta receives tens of thousands of telephone calls each year from Medicare beneficiaries and their families or other representatives when they need help or want to appeal a notice of their hospital discharge or termination of covered services. Each case begins with a phone call to Livanta's Helpline. With the BIC API, Livanta's Medicare Helpline staff can verify a beneficiary's Medicare eligibility quickly and easily.
Before the BIC API integration, Livanta's patient service representatives relied on a manual lookup process to verify Medicare beneficiaries' eligibility. This process, which required Livanta staff to access up to four separate systems, was time-consuming, labor-intensive, and required tedious and painstaking keyboard entry. With the BIC API integration, Livanta has seamlessly integrated the beneficiary eligibility verification process into its case intake process.
Livanta Executive Director Lance Coss stated, “This integration provides direct access to the official Medicare beneficiary database, which reduces the number of manual steps to verify eligibility and increases the efficiency of front-line staff. The end result is a smoother interaction, greater customer satisfaction, and improved call center metrics.”
Livanta Chief Technology Officer Randall Severy added, “Using APIs such as the BIC API allows us to continually refine our technology to keep pace with our government customers' increasingly complex systems.”
Using its innovative CompassWeb system, Livanta takes steps to ensure that all cases are handled accurately and expeditiously for every person who calls. As a central hub for Livanta's intake processes, CompassWeb includes a comprehensive platform for physician-level medical review. Livanta's BFCC-QIO services provide federally mandated consumer protections to Medicare beneficiaries in 27 states and U.S. territories.
Special thanks to the team from CMS Center for Clinical Standards and Quality (CCSQ), CMS Office of Information Technology (OIT), and Peraton for supporting Livanta's integration of the BIC API.
